Pageturn is a social network for people who read — proudly, unapologetically, and in public. You post the book you're reading, add a thought or two — and that's the whole ritual. Friends follow you, like and comment on the books you're sharing, and save them to their own private reading list. Think of it like Instagram, except instead of posting aspirational lifestyle photos, everyone's posting aspirational beach reads, Russian novels, philosophy tracts, economics treatises, self help tomes, cook books, or best sellers.
Seriously, not much! You share books! Someone reads something, posts a quick review (think those little cards you see in bookstores). Friends and community members fav it, comment on it, or quietly saving it for later like the list-making freaks we all are. That's it. That's the app.
Gone. Retired. Sent to live on a farm upstate with the other tyrannies of the five-point scale. We think "here's what I'm reading right now, and here's why it's living in my head" says infinitely more than ⭐⭐⭐½. Nobody's rich inner life fits in a rating out of five.
Also gone. There is no shelf. There is no progress bar guilting you about the 47 books you started in 2019. There's no "Want to Read" pile silently judging you. Post a book when you feel like it. Don't when you don't. There are plenty of ways to turn your reading life into productivity porn. Pageturn is not one of them. If you still like Goodreads after everything & nothing Amazon has done with it, well, godspeed.
The person whose camera roll is unnaturally full of book covers. The one who texts "you HAVE to read this" to the group chat. The reader who thinks what you're reading this week is a more honest introduction than any bio. If any of that sounds like you — welcome. We think you'll like it here.
We're currently in private beta. Pageturn's natural habitat is an iOS app, and it's landing in TestFlight very soon. The move right now is to sign up for the beta — get your name on the list, and when the doors open you'll be one of the first readers in the room.
Pageturn is built by Michael Sippey. It comes from a very specific itch: wanting to know what my friends are actually reading right now, without the star ratings, the shelves, or the performance. Turns out the fastest way to scratch an itch is to build the thing yourself.
